One of the hardest challenges veterans integrating into civilian life face is finding a steady job. Among the 326,000 unemployed veterans in 2018, 54% were aged 25 to 54, 40% were aged 55 and over, and 6% were aged 18 to 24 – many with families to feed and bills to pay.
But for many veterans, the job search is an alien concept. They are faced with constant challenges when it comes to translating their military experience into civilian employment, jumping over certification hurdles, and potentially anxious about how a disability such as post-traumatic stress disorder could keep them from getting a job.
It can be confusing, intimidating, expensive, and a detriment to a person’s health. The stress and anxiety of looking for a job can lead to depression, especially when unemployed for six months or longer, with veterans being more at risk of suicide. With our Hire a Veteran Project we hope to make a difference.
The Hire a Veteran project ® aims to combat all of these blockers. Our goal is to make the job search process as simple as possible by building and listing resources to help transitioning military and veterans.

We are a national 24/7-peer support network for veteran and military communities 100% staffed by trained veterans and members of the military community, their families, and caregivers.
We are committed to ensuring that all veterans, service members, their families, and caregivers always have direct and immediate access to a peer who understands their life experiences and the challenges they face, and can provide support whenever they confront an issue, wherever they are in the world.
We believe that there is no physical, mental, or social challenge that we can’t help find a solution for. Regardless of the complexity of the issue, or how long it takes, we will continue to follow up, seek out possible avenues, and pursue different options until an answer is found. We go the extra mile.
We serve veterans of all generations and the entire military community, from those who just put on a uniform, to the caregiver of a veteran who has long since stopped wearing a uniform.
The Special Operators Transition Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to helping Special Operations Forces (SOF) veterans transition from the military into their next successful career.
What began with a simple question in a dinner conversation between four senior executives and Rob O’Neill, the U.S. Navy SEAL who killed Osama Bin Laden, “What are you going to do next?” has evolved into a four phase program that curates the transition experience for Special Operators of all services. Every year since inception we have increased the numbers of Special Operator veterans supported and funds raised.
In 2019, from Boston to San Francisco, 68 Special Operators transitioned into some of our nation’s highest performing companies. For 2020, we project 150 Fellows will be accepted into the SOTF program.
Our Fellows are senior Non-Commissioned Officers, Warrant Officers and Officers from Green Beret, SEAL, Delta Force, 75th Ranger Regiment, Marine Corps Special Operations and AFSOC units. They are the military’s pro athletes with special skills and advanced degrees, ready to find the right career. SOTF provides coaching and connections to help Special Operations veterans identify, prepare and execute a personal marketing plan. We also provide unique interactive opportunities for C-Suite executives to meet and explore opportunities in small venues.
