ChildFirst Services, Inc. is a Pennsylvania-based nonprofit organization that provides residential care, foster care, and independent living services for children and youth involved with the child welfare system. Founded in 1993 by Dr. Nathaniel J. Williams, who grew up in foster care himself, the organization serves children referred by Pennsylvania county offices of Children and Youth Services and Juvenile Probation.
What They Do
ChildFirst Services Inc. operates a network of small group homes, supervised independent living residences, treatment foster care homes, and specialized residential programs that provide safe, supportive environments for children and adolescents. Children receive residential services based on their individual circumstances while family situations are stabilized, reunification is pursued, or alternative long-term placements are arranged.
The organization’s Group Home Program provides 24-hour supervision and structured support in small residential settings. For older youth preparing for adulthood, the Supervised Independent Living Program provides participants with practical life skills in budgeting, employment readiness, housing planning, and higher education preparation. ChildFirst Services also operates a Mother and Baby Program that allows pregnant and parenting youth to continue their education while receiving parenting instruction and support services.
In addition, the Ruth Hearns-Williams Treatment Foster Care Program places children and adolescents in carefully screened foster homes where they receive emotional support, treatment services, and individualized care. ChildFirst Services focuses on family-based care, individualized service plans, and skill development that supports long-term stability.
