Hope Ministries is a Des Moines-based nonprofit that provides food, shelter, clothing, and life recovery programs for men, women, and children in need across Central Iowa. Since 1915, the organization has offered rescue, recovery, and restoration for people facing hunger, homelessness, abuse, addiction, and other difficult circumstances.
What They Do
Hope Ministries serves people in Central Iowa through immediate care and longer-term recovery support. Its rescue services include free meals, safe shelter, clothing, and other practical assistance for neighbors who are hungry, unhoused, or in crisis. Through Hope Café and its other centers, the organization serves more than 650 free meals each day. The ministry has spent more than a century serving Des Moines residents who need a safe place to turn.
Additionally, the ministry offers life recovery programs designed to address deeper barriers such as homelessness, addiction, incarceration, abuse, and chronic poverty. These programs include classes, counseling, work-skills training, case management, and individualized care plans that give participants structured ways to pursue stability and self-sufficiency.
