ChildPromise, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting quality residential and educational services for children and youth. Established in 1879 as the Baptist Orphanage of Philadelphia, the organization traces its origins to a small bequest left by a young girl in 1873 and has spent more than a century helping vulnerable children and young people access opportunities that support their growth, education, and future success.

Today, ChildPromise works to create pathways that encourage responsibility, accountability, and long-term achievement for children and youth, with a particular focus on educational opportunity and support for those who have experienced foster care or other challenges.

What They Do

ChildPromise (Tax ID: 23-1352032), based in Philadelphia, partners with colleges and universities across the region to support foster youth pursuing higher education.

The ChildPromise Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance for foster youth and other vulnerable students pursuing college, vocational education, or skilled trades. To further support student success, the organization partners with institutions such as Arcadia University’s H.O.M.E. Scholars Program, Kutztown University’s PROFS initiative, and Onondaga Community College’s Lazers Fostering Success Program, all of which offer structured academic, housing, and social support for students with lived experience in foster care or homelessness.

Complementing these efforts is the Higher Education Mentorship Program, which pairs college students with professionals in their field of study during the final years of their undergraduate education. The program strengthens the transition from college to career by providing mentorship, career planning, resume and interview support, and real-world professional guidance. Through tailored matching based on academic and career goals, students gain access to industry insight, networking opportunities, and long-term mentorship relationships that often extend beyond graduation.

Together, these programs provide a coordinated network of academic, financial, and professional support that helps young people build confidence, complete their education, and transition successfully into the workforce and independent adulthood.
