Exceptional Equestrians is a Wisconsin-based nonprofit that provides equine-assisted therapy and adaptive riding services for children, teens, and adults with disabilities and other challenges. Through therapy programs involving specially trained horses, the organization provides services that support participants’ physical, emotional, cognitive, and social well-being.
Exceptional Equestrians serves individuals with a wide range of diagnoses, including cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, traumatic brain injury, spina bifida, and other neuromuscular conditions. The organization operates in northeastern Wisconsin and serves participants from 14 counties throughout the region. Exceptional Equestrians, registered with the IRS as Exceptional Equestrians Company (EIN 39-1959653), is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving this region.
Its programs include adaptive riding and hippotherapy, a medically based treatment that uses the movement of horses as part of physical, occupational, and speech therapy. These services are delivered by licensed therapists working alongside trained equine specialists and therapy horses. The organization also maintains a financial assistance program that provides financial support to participants who qualify for assistance.
According to Exceptional Equestrians’ 2025 Impact Report, the organization served 193 individuals and delivered 3,789 therapy sessions during the year. The report also notes that participants came from 14 Wisconsin counties, providing documented data on the organization’s service area and participation.
