Illinois Birddog Rescue, Inc. (IBR) is a nonprofit animal rescue organization dedicated to saving, rehabilitating, and rehoming homeless field-bred English Pointers and English Setters. Founded in 2001, the organization works through a network of foster homes serving the Chicagoland area, central Illinois, the St. Louis region, and Indianapolis.

What They Do

Illinois Birddog Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that focuses on rescuing English Pointers, English Setters, and other birddog breeds that have been abandoned, surrendered, or found in shelters. Rather than operating a shelter facility, the organization places dogs in foster homes where they receive individualized care while preparing for adoption. According to its current homepage, IBR has saved 1,514 dogs, puppies, and a few cats since October 2001.

Each rescued dog receives veterinary care, including vaccinations, heartworm testing and treatment when needed, microchipping, and spay or neuter services before adoption. Foster families socialize the dogs with people, children, and other animals while also working on basic manners, house training, and crate training. Many dogs arrive with medical or behavioral challenges, and volunteers help them recover before they are matched with adoptive families.

The rescue’s foster network is centered in the Chicagoland area and extends throughout central Illinois, the St. Louis region of Missouri, and Indianapolis, Indiana. The organization is funded through donations and adoption fees and operates under EIN 30-0053033. To learn more about its rescue programs and adoption process, visit the official IBR website.
