MERS/Missouri Goodwill Industries is a Missouri nonprofit that connects people facing barriers to employment with career services, education, job training, and work opportunities. Since the 2001 merger of Metropolitan Employment Rehabilitation Services and Goodwill, MERS Goodwill has provided workforce and rehabilitation programs to communities throughout Missouri.
What They Do
MERS Goodwill provides employment and education programs for people preparing for or returning to work. Career Services include career counseling, job-placement assistance, skills training, literacy education, and ongoing employment support. Specialized services serve people with disabilities, brain injuries, autism, hearing loss, and other employment barriers, as well as youth and older adults.
The organization also operates The Excel Center®, an accredited, tuition-free public high school where adults can earn a diploma while completing college credits and industry-recognized certifications. Across seven Missouri locations, the program has graduated 1,187 students, with 86% employed or enrolled in college or certification programs within six months of graduation.
MERS Goodwill also creates jobs through its Custodial and Business Contracts Division, which provides office cleaning, snow removal, paper processing, and facilities support for local businesses. Revenue from these contracts, retail operations, and community donations funds employment, education, and workforce development programs throughout Missouri. The organization operates more than 60 career centers statewide.
