The Montgomery Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is a community-based orchestra that brings live symphonic music and music education programs to residents throughout Montgomery County, Maryland. Founded in 1946–47, the orchestra presents free concerts supported by accomplished amateur musicians and provides opportunities for young musicians through its educational programs.

What They Do

Montgomery Symphony Orchestra presents free orchestral concerts for the Takoma Park and Silver Spring communities, with the support of accomplished amateur musicians. Its 2025–2026 season includes four concerts featuring works by composers such as Antonín Dvořák, Valerie Coleman, Tchaikovsky, Aaron Copland, Rachel Portman, and Margaret Bonds. Performances take place at Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church in Takoma Park.

The orchestra also provides opportunities for young musicians through its Youth Concerto Competition Concert, which features competition winners performing as soloists with MSO. The 2026 program includes student performers on cello, violin, and marimba.

Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves audiences in Takoma Park, Silver Spring, and throughout Montgomery County, Maryland. Through its concert season and youth musician opportunities, the orchestra connects community members with live orchestral music while giving emerging performers opportunities to develop their skills. Additional information about its concerts, educational programs, volunteer opportunities, and community events is available at www.montgomerysymphony.org.
