Neighbor Ride is a Howard County, Maryland-based nonprofit organization that provides volunteer-driven transportation services for adults aged 60 and older. Founded in 2004, the organization provides affordable rides that support older residents’ mobility, independence, and connection to their communities, including transportation to medical appointments, social activities, religious services, shopping destinations, and other essential locations.

What They Do

Volunteer drivers provide rides to medical appointments, grocery stores, pharmacies, social gatherings, faith-based activities, volunteer opportunities, and other important destinations. Services are available seven days a week, including daytime and evening hours, for locations within 35 miles of a rider’s home.

Neighbor Ride also operates the Good Neighbor Fund, which provides eligible older adults with free transportation when financial barriers limit their ability to access needed services. In addition, the organization’s Driving Heroes Program provides complimentary rides for veterans in the community.

According to Neighbor Ride’s FY2025 Annual Report, volunteers contributed 19,750 hours of service during the year. The organization provided 17,748 trips, including transportation for medical appointments, social and wellness activities, shopping, work, volunteer service, education, and faith-based events. The report also notes that Neighbor Ride had 310 volunteers during the year.
