Mission:
To provide education and resources to achieve and sustain a no-kill community
Richmond Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is a Richmond, Virginia nonprofit that rescues and rehomes homeless animals while providing veterinary and support services that allow more pets to remain with their families. Founded in 1891, the organization has operated as a no-kill shelter since 2002, according to Richmond SPCA.
Richmond SPCA brings homeless animals into its Robins-Starr Humane Center through transfers from government shelters, owner surrenders, stray intake, and abandonment cases. Staff and foster volunteers provide daily care, veterinary treatment, behavioral support, and adoption services.
Its Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital provides low-cost, full-service care for income-qualified families in the greater Richmond region and for pets adopted from the Humane Center. Smoky’s Spay & Neuter Clinic performs sterilization surgeries for owned pets and animals in shelters or rescues; it also provides free sterilization and rabies vaccines for eligible community cats.
The free Behavior Helpline gives guardians guidance and training resources for behavior concerns, while the Pet Pantry distributes pet food and supplies to people who need temporary assistance. According to its fiscal year 2025 impact report, the organization sheltered 4,421 pets and served 12,771 community animals through its clinic and hospital.
Richmond Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Tax ID 54-0506328) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Details about its adoption, veterinary, and pet-support services are available at richmondspca.org.
Proceeds from your vehicle go directly to Richmond SPCA and sustain its programs and services.
That funding covers veterinary treatment for homeless animals awaiting adoption, low-cost care for community pets through the Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital, and spay/neuter procedures at Smoky’s clinic. Together, these services prepare shelter animals for adoption and give local pet owners lower-cost options for routine and medical care.
Free vehicle pickup is included, and your donation is 100% tax deductible.
