Pursuit Center, formerly known as The Center for Pursuit, is a Houston-based nonprofit serving children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, and similar conditions. Founded in 1950 by parents seeking alternatives to institutionalization, the organization now provides residential, employment, health, wellness, recreation, and education programs across Harris County and the greater Houston area.

What They Do

Pursuit Center offers connected services designed to create pathways to independence, health, work, and community life for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Its recreation and education work includes a mix of adult day programs, camps, Saturday activities, and learning opportunities such as Pursuit Learning Academy. These programs help participants build relationships, practice life skills, explore interests, and stay active in supportive settings.

Through PursuitJOBS and the McNair Employment Center, transitioning youth and adults receive career planning, skills assessment, job placement, internships, assistive technology, and coaching. Pursuit Center also operates residential homes where adults receive personalized support while developing daily living skills and working toward individual goals.

Health and wellness services bring coordinated care to the main campus, including medical, behavioral health, dental, fitness, speech, and early-childhood autism support. In its FY24 impact reporting, Pursuit Center reported serving 1,028 children and adults, training 172 high school students, supporting 342 teens and adults through PursuitJOBS, and operating 22 homes for 114 residents.

Pursuit Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with Tax ID 74-1272417. More information about its services, history, impact, and Houston campus is available on its official website.
