For those that have chosen a military life, there are unique challenges, and those challenges sometimes lead to crisis, leaving some feeling isolated and alone. Making connections helps to reduce stress, provide camaraderie, and give those who have served and their families the toolkit to build a better future.

Through wellness programs, community events, restorative retreats, and targeted resources, the organization fosters resilience and well-being among those who have served.
What Active Heroes Does
Active Heroes (Tax ID: 45-4138378) offers several programs designed to support the mental wellness and quality of life of veterans and military families. One of its signature initiatives, Project Healing Waters, hosts biweekly fly-fishing therapy sessions where veterans learn casting techniques, fly selection, and water safety in a calm, small-group setting. The program encourages mindfulness, stress relief, and peer connection through time spent outdoors.
The organization also operates the Trager Family Foundation Disc Golf Course, a free 19-hole course open daily to veterans, families, and community members. The course provides a low-impact recreational activity that encourages movement, social interaction, and time outdoors for players of all experience levels.
Through Vet Plus One Dinners, veterans and a guest are invited to free community meals that create opportunities for conversation, support, and connection to local resources. Active Heroes also runs Operation R&R, which provides complimentary retreat stays for combat and disabled veterans seeking rest and recovery in a quiet, restorative environment with optional recreational activities.
