Tails High, Inc. is a foster home-based cat rescue and adoption nonprofit in Alexandria, Virginia. Founded in 2009, the rescue serves cats and kittens in the Washington Metropolitan area, with a local focus on Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., Maryland, and the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.
Tails High rescues stray, abandoned, homeless, and at-risk cats and kittens, placing them in foster homes until they are ready for adoption. Since it does not operate a physical shelter, its ability to take in cats depends on volunteer foster families who provide safe, social, home-based care.
The rescue assists orphaned kittens, mother cats with litters, friendly strays, abandoned pets, and cats with medical or behavioral needs. Foster volunteers learn about each cat’s personality, health, and social needs so the rescue can identify the best permanent home. Tails High supports lasting matches through adopter guidance, foster-to-adopt options when appropriate, and help after adoption.
Veterinary care is a central part of the program. In most cases, cats and kittens are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, tested for FeLV/FIV, treated for worms, and microchipped before adoption. The organization also provides foster families with food, litter, veterinary care, training, and other supplies.
Tails High offers guidance for anyone who finds a stray or abandoned cat, including advice on reporting, microchip checks, and local shelter contacts. Your donated vehicle funds Tails High’s foster-based rescue work for cats and kittens in the Washington Metropolitan area. Proceeds go toward veterinary care, spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, FeLV/FIV testing, microchips, food, litter, foster supplies, emergency medical needs, adoption preparation, and resources that help cats move from unsafe situations into loving homes.
