Bird Conservancy of the Rockies is a nonprofit conservation organization dedicated to protecting birds and their habitats through science, education, and land stewardship, work that spans the Rocky Mountains and Great Plains down into Mexico.
Bird Conservancy of the Rockies runs its work through three main channels: field-based bird research, the Environmental Learning Center’s education programs, and on-the-ground habitat restoration projects with landowners and land managers. Its 2023–2028 Strategic Plan focuses on five major goals, including informing conservation through biological and social science, engaging communities in place-based conservation, building resilient landscapes, advancing large-scale collaborative initiatives, and sustaining long-term conservation leadership.
A key component of its educational outreach is the Environmental Learning Center, located at the organization’s headquarters near Barr Lake State Park in Brighton, Colorado. The center hosts programs for schools, homeschool students, families, and summer camps, helping participants learn about birds, wildlife habitats, and natural resource stewardship.
The Environmental Learning Center also serves as a public resource where visitors can explore interpretive displays, bird feeders, walking paths, and demonstration gardens. Situated along the Central Flyway and just 20 minutes from downtown Denver, the site provides opportunities for people to experience the connection between birds, land, and conservation firsthand.
