Got Your Back Network is a national nonprofit supporting military families who have lost a spouse or parent while serving the country. Established in January 2009 by U.S. Navy physician and humanitarian Dr. Andy Baldwin, the organization connects surviving families with practical resources, personal relationships, and positive experiences for children of fallen service members.
What They Do
Got Your Back Network focuses on needs that can arise after the loss of a service member. It connects surviving spouses and children with grief counseling, job training, financial literacy, mentoring, education scholarships, and children’s camps, working with professionals nationwide so a family’s location does not determine access.
For children of fallen service members, the organization arranges coordinated events and one-on-one interactions with leaders from sports, business, politics, and entertainment. These experiences give young people opportunities to meet role models, explore their interests, and spend time with other families who understand military loss. In one documented example, its 2014 Project Gratitude event hosted 10 surviving spouses for a weekend surrounding the Miss America pageant in Atlantic City.
The organization’s #WaveItForward campaign also invited local and national supporters to “return the salute” by displaying the American flag and recognizing active-duty, veteran, and Gold Star families.
Got Your Back Network operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit under EIN 26-4819205. More information about its mission, family services, and events is available on its official website.
